Merry Christmas to all
Dec. 25th, 2004 07:42 pmMerry Christmas....
This is my first Christmas away from my family up north. It's verrry strange....
Somehow it seems okay as long as I don't listen to Stan Roger's "First Christmas Away From Home"
I'm going with my youngest brother to Rhiannon's Christmas party. Formal. We both enjoy formal.
No prezzies now. Very little food. *sigh*. I would have liked to have gotten that job...
Ah well. Next year.
The number of years I've actually had Christmasses where I had -any- money at all is.... 2.
That at least I'm used to.
At least I'll be dressed fancy *g*. And with good company!
Made absolutely DELICIOUS Ambesha (Ethiopian Tea bread) last night. Made in small cakes rather than one big one which was good... *yumm*. It's a bread dish heavy on coriander but with some other spicing as well.
Dinner last night was Hutspot (potatoes, carrots and onions all mashed together with a spot of butter), cream corn and applesauce. I like having stored food - means I can eat fancy sometimes *g*.
My house feels... empty. Having the current roommie's stuff already gone doesn't change that much (they didn't have much except kitchen stuff and now I've unpacked -my- kitchen so that's happy) but they're not much into celebrating much of anything other than eachother. Which is sweet, but I don't feel... there.... I guess.
I'm used to seeing the Wheat clan gettogether - or at least the Santa celebrations (with me stepdad as Santa he -LOVES- the job - and outside of being thin looks like a good Father Christmas too). That's piles and piles of kids and anywhere up to 70 or more people showing up for dinner.
*deep sigh*
Next year. Beside's the clan gathering's been set for May as there's too many to fit into any of the houses anymore. Even Uncle's place that's as big as 4 houses stacked together 'cause he got carried away building. That's not counting the (size of a house) greenhouse he built as an addition. Neat house actually - looks like 5 row-houses (rowhousen?) lined up with the fifth made of glass. Very professional. And BIG 'cause in reality it's one big house. My family up north likes getting carried away building or fixing things and he lives on a farm (100s of acres) so he's got the space.
Anyway, feeling a little homesick (even though I couldnever live back there again.
Me and da Otter (my little bro) are going to a Christmas dinner!
And for those who don't celebrate Christmas? Why not? It's a good excuse to celebrate something. I like celebrating everything possible!
Ta all!
