Good morning world!
Dec. 19th, 2004 05:55 pmWell who'd ha thunk it
(quick aside - my 'puter clock is set to GMT. Linux prefers it and windows is confused. Poor foolish stupid windows....)
Anyways. It's somewhere before 10am on a nice sunday morning. Been up for a bit. Noodles and cheese sauce - a special meal for me - is what I had for brekkie. My own recipe actually *g*.
Ever notice how much -dye- they put in cheddar these days? I don't remember my cheese sauce ever turning orange before (unless I added fake-cheese-mix *g*)
Listening to two more of the groups I'm fond of.... Therion (oooh operatic death metal *g*) and Rammstein (verry silly fire-dominated Austrian heavy metal). I definitely have to play some Manowar later....
Oh quick Manowar aside - they're a (British?) heavy metal group from the 80s, fond of singing about Norse gods (and legends of various things). They have a nice rendition of Achilles (Achilles - Agony and Exctasy in 8 parts) for instance. Their "Crown and the Ring" -is- opera. My mother doesn't mind them... (she's not much into opera and tends not to like anything heavy) and once found a fan site in the Netherlands when she did a search on her own name - which had her grinning *g*. Oh, my younger brother's wife's fond of them *g* Anyways...
I -do- like music all over the spectrum....
Oohh rain and sun outside. Wonder where the rainbow is? Except that kinda looks like sleet. Pretty anyways.
Muddling through "The Shadow Matrix" by Marion Zimmer Bradley.... Some of the social stuff she's ascribing to the federation in her books is starting to REALLY resemble US policy for the last few years... I wonder what she's suggesting?
I think I like Darkover for the most part. It reminds me of the better parts of Canada strangely....
Favorite movies: (Yes I watch movies sometimes) These are ones I can pretty much watch repeatedly...
Anything by Hayao Miyazaki - but especially Spirited Away, Laputa and Tonari no Totoro. Okay ESPECIALLY Totoro.
Lawrence of Arabia (lots of reasons. My grandfather was a mercenary in Lawrence's armies....
Fiddler on the Roof. (again more memories. Lots of stuff reminds me of Oma+Opa. Also my grandfather rescued his home town (a mennonite community) in Russia after the revolution in the same time setting... I've not only got what I've been told but a letter from my Great Aunt (who was 10 then).
Labyrinth
Sirens
Don Juan DeMarco (well I find some of Don Juan's language... oddly remote though. Kinda familiar though)
I did say Totoro right? Reminds me of Autumn - she was 3 at the time and she watched that (Japanese with English subtitles) every time she visited... for about 6 months. If that says anything *g*
Kiki's Delivery service. (Hayao Miyazaki). I have a picture on my desk of my niece and nephew - she dressed as Kiki and him as Gigi (a black cat). Autumn ran around with a broom for -weeks- after watching that show. Anything that can get kids -that- enthralled (and -that- happy too) has probably got some good to it...
Secondhand Lions. okay it's a little "hollywood". Reminds me of family all over the place too. Gave a copy to me mom+stepdad and they -love- it.
Girl, Interrupted. umm I canna say much other than reminds me of life.
To Wan Foo, and Thanks for Everything
Tank Girl (and I have a friend who reminds me of the main character - namingly Serena)
Practical Magic (and I want my copy back)
There are others too. Lots of others... Just figured I'd mention these... I just spilled water on my keyboard though so I prolly should shut this thing down....
