Happy New Year!
Jan. 1st, 2005 11:19 amWell, spent new year's eve/morn out with O's musicians floating around downtown van. And feeling all incompetent.
When I'm playing on my own I don't mind feeling stupid 'cause I know I'll improve. It's just difficult thinking about when I'm in /public/. I got no particular fear of performing, I'm just not fond of being not good at things.
Actually it's either bravery or pigheadedness. No idea. I'm still looking for anything I'm actually -good- at (except arcane programming and remembering useless trivia) but it's a fun journey. Anyways, enough rambling, back on topic.
We all wandered down Granville, around a couple of blocks and to Robson Square. Granville was a little rough. We were drowned out by the drummers. Repeatedly. And by the loud rock from the clubs (not so often). And by the Hare Krishnas who I think were playing cool music.
(I played flute and O's penny whistle. My flute needs servicing badly... it stopped working completely part way through the night). I kept not getting the notes I was hearing played. Anyways... I got drowned out lots which was prolly a good thing.
Unfortunately, so was O. Pity that 'cause he was playing -well-.
Robson turned out to be the best part of the night. (23:30pm-00:30am) HOREDES of people. Lots thought that pics should be made. Lots donated money.
Oh yah. It was a fundraiser for the Red Cross' disaster relief efforts.
Anyways, Robson rocked. People thought we were cool. People occasionally stopped and -danced-. This one group of guys actually did this really cool (fast) circle dance too before breaking up in laughter and heading off. (chearful). Pretty asian girls kept going up to O to get pictures taken. He was, after all, in full form and lots of colours. And the accordion (melodion (sp) actually) was really popular.
Actually that was where people gave the most support too - pro-red cross, pro-disaster relief, pro-music, pro-dance, pro-let's-cheer. All kinds of people. That rocked.
Everyone sounded good (except me) but I think I muddled along kinda. I can trill a penny whistle kinda wild I don't really know what it sounds like to anyone else but -I- like it.
Yah this is scattered. And mostly about me but this is MY journal, right? *g*. I can be egocentric here and not worry too bad.
