Odd thoughts and humour

Odd refs to science:
(BBC): High-salt diet link to ulcer risk
What gets me is bacteria like Helicobacter pylori were thought to be mythical (or entirely imaginary) by some doctors up 'til quite recently....
(BBC): Tea 'healthier' drink than water
While I'm rather fond of my cuppa, I have to admit something "seems odd" here...
(New Scientist) Robotic submarine reaches new depths
(from slashdot) - Actually a lot more interesting to me than it would seem. My brother and I have been designing aquatic explorer robots for a while... we're yet to build one but it's only a matter of time.
That and exploring strange places is COOL!
(cnet): Work bill would create new ID database
from slashdot actually - "Cnet is reporting that the US Congress, in their quest for immigration reform, seeks to force employers to utilize a database to determine a person's eligibility for employment. The Department of Homeland Security would operate the database and would be given access to IRS records for this purpose. The article mentions similarities between this proposal and the no-fly list — and the expectation of similar difficulties the proposed database could pose to valid people seeking employment."
This one worries me. There's something very scary in such lists... especially as they've got a history of screwing up.
(Wired): The Visible Man: An FBI Target Puts His Whole Life Online
also from slashdot - After the FBI mistakenly targeted him as a terror suspect five years ago, art professor Hasan Elahi began recording his entire life online for the perusal of government agents or anyone else who wants to look in. "I've discovered that the best way to protect your privacy is to give it away," he says, grinning. "It's economics. I flood the market."
Scary as the context is, it's a fair solution. I'm going to predict that at some point almost everyone in "western" society will be doing similar... in a decade or so.
I try to avoid predictions but this one seems inevitable.
